Bob Moats Writer of Murder Mysteries
Detroit area resident, Bob Moats, has been writing short stories
and plays for as long as he can remember. He has lost most of his original stories,
typed or handwritten, in the numerous moves he has made from his hometown of Fraser,
Michigan to Northern Michigan, to Las Vegas and back to Fraser, where he now lives.
He also wrote the short fantasy novella "Crystal Prison of Kyr" and is a published
playwright with his three act comedy "Happily Ever After".
Moats became one of the victims of unemployment early in 2009, and had time on
his hands to finally pursue a life long dream of writing a full blown crime novel.
Thus was born the first book, "Classmate Murders".
What followed was a series of thirty-nine murder/mystery books starting with "Classmate Murders" which
introduces the main character, Jim Richards, who has to admit he has become a
senior citizen, reluctantly. Richards, one day, receives an email from a childhood
sweetheart asking for his help, but by the time he reaches her, she has been murdered.
His life turns around and he is pulled into numerous murders of women from his high
school who he hasn't seen in forty years. Along with a friend of his, Buck, a big,
mustached biker, they go off to track down the killer before he can get to one former
classmate, Penny Wickens, a TV talk show host who Jim has fallen for while protecting
her. The killer is also murdering the women right out from under police protection,
driving homicide detective Will Trapper crazy, and he slowly depends on Jim to help.
There's humor, suspense, wild chases across suburban Detroit with cops, classic cars
and motorcycle clubs; murder, mayhem, a good amount of romance and a twist ending.
Jim and his fellow crime fighters, continue in the other books, traveling to Las Vegas
twice, back to Detroit and out to New York to solve murders involving dominatrix; mistresses;
Bridezillas; magic; strip clubs and an ocean cruise. Previews and comments are available on this site.

Open Letter from Bob Moats
On April 4th, 2009, I wrote the first paragraph to my first book,
Classmate Murders. I had no idea how this journey of writing books would go. I'm now up to
36 of that series, six in the Fatal series, five of the new Doyle, P.I. series, five of the Gus
Mackie novella series, the new Stoney Hawk book, the Scott Murphey series and the new series of Ghost Squad stories. I can't seem to stop. The best aspects about my writing are the people who
have sent me unsolicited email and online comments about how much they enjoy my books
and even bought all of them to read. It honestly humbles me when I read the nice things
they say about my characters. I put a lot of heart into my book characters and they are
real to me. I believe they are my family and so are all the fans of the books. They
share the same feelings I have for Jim and Penny and the gang. I hope the next number of
years, if I live, will be as good as the last have been. Thank you from my heart to all
the people who have read and enjoyed my books, Bob.

Jim and Penny are on vacation but murder pops up
Here's the synopsis: Jim and Penny have retired from chasing criminals around Las Vegas and decide to go on a cross country vacation in their motorhome. Their first stop is in Lake Havasu to visit the London Bridge. While in the campground there turns up a strange case of murder. A man in an RV across from Jim and Penny finds himself in bed with a strange dead woman, who is not his wife and who is now missing. The police find too many twists in the case and the lead detective allows Jim and Penny to tag along while he tracks down the killer. So far it looks like a drug cartel murder or a bad case of prostitution gone wrong. Will Jim and Penny help catch the killer and avoid being murdered by a drug lord.

Jim Richards is Back

Dexter Nash is back! Book 2
Dexter Nash was a hitman. He murdered for money and it was a business to him. Nothing personal. Dex was given a job to do a hit on a state senator and in his research he met a woman who had an incriminating video of the senator in bed with two women. The woman wanted to blackmail the senator so she would have the cash to move away from the state. Unfortunately, she was murdered, which didn’t make Dex very happy. Now he had to shoot the senator and go after the men who killed the woman. More twists and turns as Dex has been outed as the shooter and is on the run from the Feds and police. They also find two more prominent politicians were in the video. Will they help Dex to follow through with his revenge? Along with a fellow hitman, Wallace, they both work to clear Dex and get revenge on the woman’s killers.
This book is a novella, shorter than a novel, but longer than a short story. It’s a quick read on a late night.

Jim Richards Returns
“Eulogy for Murder” is the 37th book in the Jim Richards series as he returns with his wife, Penny, and their friends, Buck, Trapper and Earl going back from Las Vegas to Michigan for a funeral. While at the funeral, Jim runs into an old friend, Barry Becker, now a detective in Jim’s home city. Becker is investigating a murder at the funeral home and Jim with his friends help to work the case. Although Jim has to be wary of Penny who doesn’t like his getting involved in murder cases. "Last Call in Detroit"
Night life in Detroit is fun, unless you get murdered.
Detroit Police Detective Scott Murphy and his partner Hadeem McDougan are assigned to find the killer of a young woman in a
parking lot of a night club in Detroit. They try to follow the evidence but the evidence isn’t there. All trace has been
wiped away and all they have is the strangled body of the woman. The next night a second woman is murdered in the exact
same way and the staff of the bar didn’t see the killer. One bartender offers to give a sketch of a man who may know who
the killer is and they find the man. He can’t offer much help either. The only clue they have are business cards supposedly
left by the killer, but the cards belong to a doctor who has no idea how his cards were given out. A third murder and more
clues surface as they get closer to the killer, but is there more than one killer? A psychopath is giving Murphy and Haddy

Stoney calls on an FBI acquaintance for help and he sends an agent out who was the lead on the original case of the missing wife. More trouble brews when friends of the abusive man show up to threaten Stoney and her client. More questions and answers lead Stoney and the agent to finding out where the missing wife is located.
